Today is February 14. Some consider this day a horrific holiday abomination; a day of exploitation and corporate greed. Others may find that this one day incites unimaginable passion and romance, where couples find a way to truly express the love they have for each other in extravagant and expensive gestures.

Yes – a day centered around red roses, love, chocolates, cheesy pick up lines, and if you’re lucky, perhaps some of that tantric sex like in that sleazy independent Taiwanese film (don’t act like you don’t remember)…

So for the last few years I have been working on writing a novel or screenplay based in the Legend universe (and NO, nobody will ever be mysterious). Things have been slow going but I have some good ideas and am making positive progress.

I’m sort of close to having at least something to show everyone, but in the meantime to help me relax and keep from getting too overwhelmed by the task I assigned myself a challenge: write a few tracks that I would use if I was making an OST for the game version!

I finished the first track today, and I’d like your input if at all possible.

    Another Game of Thrones Post

    So the review you guys did of Game of Thrones is pretty far down so I was going to make a new one, and then warren had to balls it all up.

    I have started watching it(without reading the books – -BLASPHEMY!), just finished the 5th episode and the main reason I will probably watch the sixth, and for that matter the seventh is because i have nothing better to do. I’m not terribly impressed. The production quality is pretty good, but the story just isn’t keeping me interested. So far the ONLY episode I HAD to watch was ep5 because of how 4 ended, and then 5 was just a let down, and rather creepy and then a let down AGAIN.

    And the opening sequence doesn’t make any bloody sense. it’s got gears and cogs and sprockets spinning building up the cities, forts and towns. I was going to say it was steampunk-ish, but there isn’t any smoke stacks so I guess it’s some sort of….springpunk? (the metal kind you wind clocks with, not the water kind).

    And I really like how Peter Dinklage’s character is a manwhore. It’s like he is trying to make up for being gay in Death at a Funeral. That is the proper english version, not the american crap one, which he WAS also in, but with a different name. I haven’t seen the american one, so I can only assume he played the same character….though with a different name…..

    It’s hard to feel immersed when you have absolutely no sense of time. It takes a month to go from the capital to winterfell. And characters seem to go back and forth like it was a weekend trip. there is no montage of traveling, or anything. Maybe just a short cutscene of them resting somewhere with a bit of dialogue or something.

    With computer graphics they should be doing epic cityscapes but they haven’t. Well, ok Lady Stark’s sisters mountain stronghold looked pretty cool, but that was about it.

    It just seems lacking….

    Winter is coming…..and so am I, ugh

    Bad Science: Study Shows Young Girls With Male Friends Become Drug Users

    This is the kind of study that ruins kids’ lives and starts fucking with the psychology of childhood. As someone who was essentially experimented on and drugged out for most of my youth, I worry about what kind of social structuring will eventually be enforced at schools if this study makes it to the big leagues… Something like punishing boy/girl friendships and promoting gender segregation. This is exactly what worried, stupid parents need to demand change that will destroy any chance of meaningful social interaction later in life. The dangers of drawing parallels or declaring you’ve found correlations that don’t actually exist are immense.

    I know this isn’t a guarantee of chaos, and the authors themselves warn about not doing more research. Good on them in that respect.

    But like I said this is the kind of bat shit insane study that gets the ball rolling, and panicky parents/groups don’t want to wait for more evidence before they hit the protest circuit.

    Fucking idiots.

    This is an interesting comparison between Watchmen’s Rorschach (as opposed to say, Friends’ Rorschach or Baby Geniuses’ Rorschach) and Ayn Rand’s Objectivism…

    “Rorschach Doesn’t Shrug”

    I never knew before reading this that Steve Ditko was a huge fan of Ayn Rand an an ardent believer in Objectivism. Apparently this may have contributed to his split from Marvel, right after Stan Lee sucked out his life source with a magic talisman and figured out how to put his own name over Ditko’s.

    I looked this up and it’s not a secret at all. He was not a closet Rander.

    From the same site as the article above:

    ““With great power comes great responsibility” was the message writer Stan Lee saw in Spider-Man. The superhero’s co-creator, artist Steve Ditko, adored Ayn Rand and didn’t believe his artistic power created any obligations. Thus, one of comics’ greatest artists languishes in self-made obscurity, living out a Roark-at-the-quarry scenario, refusing to grasp most of the work opportunities that awed acolytes offer him.”

    And here’s more of the same opinion from a New York Times article on Ditko:

    …(Ditko) split with Lee and Marvel in 1966. By then, he’d fallen under the spell of Ayn Rand and Objectivism, and started producing an endless string of ham-fisted comics about how A is A and there is no gray area between good and evil and so on. “The Hawk and the Dove,” for instance, concerns two superhero brothers who … oh, you’ve already figured it out. Ditko could still devise brilliantly disturbing visuals — the Question, one of his many Objectivist mouthpieces, is a man in a jacket, tie and hat, with a blank expanse of flesh for a face — and his drawing style kept evolving, even as his stories tediously parroted “Atlas Shrugged” and “The Fountainhead” at the expense of character, plot and ultimately bearability.

    And finally the Guardian UK tries to make sense of Ditko in this great article, excerpted below:

    As an advocate of the philosopher Ayn Rand, Ditko is a believer in objectivism, that peculiar school of thought that promotes hardline capitalism and the pursuit of individual, self-serving goals and personal happiness as the only legitimate and rational way forward for the human race. Hence such characters as Mr A, for example, a Randian vigilante dressed all in white and doling out a brutal, uncompromising form of justice. In the universe that Mr A inhabits there is good, there is evil, and there is nothing in between. Mr A not only perfectly illustrates the nutty extremism of objectivism but also perfectly sums up why Ditko is such an anomaly in the world of comics. If compromise is an unacceptable evil, how on earth can you work for big companies that are always going to insist on doing things their way, regardless of what a character’s creator wants?

    As I have been watching the occasional Daily Show online, I cannot help but notice how one ad has the acute resemblance of our beloved Sean. I am quite concerned that, either he has been secretly using his dapper looks to sell his soul as a second job, or Comedy Central and Mtv have been using young people so sell their products. Either way, I think it’s damn near time we yell “we’re not going to take it anymore”, as we demand to have the image (and all resemblances) of our Sean copyrighted to our group. After all, we found Sean first, didn’t we?!

    Down In Jungle Town – one of my favorite Dixieland songs, played by Denmark’s own Dr. Rulles Jazzklinik. Yeah, it’s weird to think that every country in the world has at least one Dixieland band playing stuff like this at communist rallies, borscht pressings, or forced circumcisions. Enjoy!
