Superbowl (Sunday)
I really enjoyed hanging out with Warren and Micah and Jared to watch the duck game a little while ago, so I thought it might be fun to get as much of the gang together as possible and watch the superbowl. It’d be pretty cool to have it at someone’s house, cause then we could make our own (unhealthy) food, But I’d be just as down to watching it at a restaurant type place. I’d volunteer my place but we don’t have cable TV…
BTW it’s on the 5th, so just a few days after the Toasters concert.
Vintage Arcade in Eugene anyone?
Kyla texted me from said arcade tonight and said it was awesome and that we should all come and check it out.
I suggested next weekend as a good time for me, and she said she has Friday and Sunday nights off. Would anyone like to come with? If someone else ends up driving I’ll chip in for gas etc.
I really can think of nothing better right now than to spend a few (perhaps many) hours in a dimly lit arcade pumping quarters into old cabinets and maybe melting some faces at SF2 or whatever…

Alan seems to think that we’re comparable to the cast of TOS, I’m not so confident…

That would obviously make Miles Chakotay since he’s very loyal to me (even though he shouldn’t be)
Jared would be 7 of 9 since he doesn’t understand HU-Mans and, let’s face it, we all want to hit that.
This also makes sense because he sort of replaced Jacob (Kess ( In this extended analogy, Amanda would be Neelix))
Micah would be Tuvok cause he’s the only sensible one among us, and someday he’s going to undergo the Pon Farr and start raping everything that’s moist and concave.
Sean can be Tom Paris, cause he’s charming and suave and pretty good at everything.
Warren is obviously the Doctor, cause he’s so quick witted… This would also explain why he doesn’t like hanging out that often, cause he would have to haul around his mobile emitter.

Fitocracy
I took Miles up on the whole fitocracy thing a few weeks ago, and I kind of like it. Jared and Alan are on it too, though Alan never logs his workouts so he’s still level 1. If anyone wants an invite I seem to have some. We’re all in a group called Panda Rapers. It’s for people who like to rape pandas. We’re pretty hardcore.
I watched this before work and it made me mad the whole day.
So the story is that some Texas Judge took a belt to his teenage daughter (who has ataxia cerebral palsy) for the gross and flagrant crime of installing Kazaa on her computer. Only she caught it on video. This was back in 2004 and so she’s 23 and only releasing it now. And basically the whole internet wants this guy dead, and so do I!
Just when I thought I was out…
Also… Who’d going to Sean and Kyla’s party tomorrow? I can drive one other person in mah truck, or can carpool down with someone else if more are coming.

Sunday Stuff
It’s Jared’s birthday tomorrow (Sunday) and right now the plan is that we’re all gonna meet up around 1:00 to go do some stuff. Probably eat a meal, and then do some other stuff. Things will be cool and stuff will get done. If you really want to wake up early and come see the Marathon, you should probably give Miles a call and coordinate with him. But I won’t hold it against anybody if they don’t, cause it will be early and probably a little rainy.

I know ten day forecasts aren’t that accurate, but this made me cry a little when I pulled it up.
But anyway, we should do something nice later in the day on the 9th, cause it’s Jared’s birthday, and he deserves an awkward lap-dance or two! I won’t be able to move my legs, so someone else can go into the VIP room with him this year.
Need a bit of a favor from someone…
I just need someone to meet me at the east end of the Saint John’s Bridge on Sunday October 9th at 8:40 AM so they can hand me a powerade (I can provide the powerade).
The stupid marathon people stopped handing out cups of gatorade at the aid stations, so now all we get is regular water and this stuff called Ultima, which has no calories and is basically just salty water.
I should point out that I may be hard to pick out of the crowd of runners, but I’ll be looking for you, and unless I’m running really really fast, I won’t be there at exactly 8:40. Also there will be other people standing around there cheering, maybe a big crowd. And it might be raining. Also, this is around mile 17 for me, so I may beg you to kill me, please try to resist!
Interesting stuff
I was looking for a song that I recommended to Miles a long time ago on this very site. For some reason I forgot both the name of the track and the artist, yet really wanted to listen to it again. So I went a little archeologist for a few hours and started digging through the old posts of GRC.
All I can say is… Wow. We’re a pretty awesome group. We write witty and intelligent things on a weekly basis pretty much. We notice bizarre and hypocritical stuff in the media and call bullshit on a lot of it with a kind of savage precision. We talk to each other about our major (and minor) problems and elicit some of the most empathetic stuff I’ve ever read.
I’m not going to include any links to old posts or anything, because I want to encourage you to go back and do this for yourself. I had to go back pretty far (late 2009) to find the song I was looking for, but it’s left me sort of hungry to go back even further at some point. But maybe just to hit the highlights… I found the old post Miles made about the South Park episode in which they try to ‘take back’ the word gay, which turned into a pretty heated discussion on prejudice and linguistics. I also found a lot of posts about Mile’s employment problems, Warren’s college problems, Alan’s adventures in Korea, Sean’s insightful responses to all of our drama etc…
Also, I found out that Dane actually made a reply to Mile’s tech question from a few months ago. So Dane still reads this sight!
