    I assumed that you had internet access under that rock.

    How did you NOT know about this? I assumed it was impossible.

    Truthfully I am unimpressed with the album. Too rap- and loop-heavy for my taste, and it’s a lot even by Gorillaz standards.

    @Warren
    doesn’t seem too different than Demon Days. We all said it was too rappy as well, and it has some of my favorite songs of theirs now.

    @ Jared
    “doesn’t seem too different than Demon Days.”
    That’s a glowing review in my book.

    I dunno, I just don’t think it has many memorable tracks. Stylo is really forgettable when the video isn’t involved, and Plastic Beach isn’t much to write home about. Demon Days had some great A- and B- side tracks (war child, DARE, We Are Happy Landfill, and Demon Days to name a few) but Plastic Beach just doesn’t strike any chords with me. To be honest, the first Gorillaz album was the same for me…

    Also my issue with adding rap is when they use it as a coverup for a really piss-poor music/lyric mix.

    I was disappointed with Plastic Beach the first play through because Warren was right and nothing jumped out at me. But I didn’t give up, and listened to it a few more times, and some of the tracks are sticking, “Rhinestone Eyes” and “On Melancholy Hill” are pretty good. The orchestral mixes are good.

    The rap really wasn’t that bad in Gorillaz and Demon Days. It’s not like the lyrics are ‘nigger nigger bitch n hoes, bling bling bitch n hoes”. It rhymes fairly well and has decent melody to it and sometimes is just awesome. In the new album I do not like Snoop Dogg, but he is only in one track so that’s good.

    The same can be said about Placebo’s and dredg’s newest album, I had to listen to them a few times untiI couldn’t stop listening to them.

    And to answer why I never heard about it before, when I was reading their wiki page about a year ago it mentioned nothing about a new album in the works and said that they were all off doing other projects.

    Yeah I hear ya, maybe the songs will grow on me after time.

    On the wiki page point, the only ‘definite’ info I heard before they announced plastic beach was that Gorillaz was breaking up last year, and that they would only do a new album if they made a movie to go with it (Yellow Submarine stuff). Go figure.
