Martin, the Tiniest Industrialist!

So… I’ve been busy trying to evade work and set myself up for another school attempt this year, while playing through a stack of games I really need to finish. Also working on the bankruptcy option still (that is a giant fucking monster pain in my ass.)

What about everybody else? What are you up to these days?

Crime fighting. Saving cats from trees and babies from burning buildings. Doing open heart surgery with just a pen. That’s what I’m up to.

I hope that all the stars align and you get what you want. Even though the roadblocks can seem insurmountable at times, if you work towards a goal you want, good things will come.

As for me, I’ve been enjoying work. This is a project that I can sink my passion into. Joining Facebook was a way to reconnect with friends. While I enjoy my job, at the end of the day, it’s just a job. And while I’ve kept in contact with you guys through Robot Club, Book Club, etc., there are people who I’ve truly lost track of.

I’ve been writing quite a bit. Unfortunately, I haven’t been reading much. The same can be said for running. I’m trying to get back into it, but it’s been difficult with the new job, and with moving to Albany. A few months ago, I could bring a pair of shorts to work, and go jog after work or on lunch. Now? Not so much. I’m often too tired to run after work, so I’m going to try switching to morning running.

I’m having a bit of “gaming ennui.” I want to buy a new game, but am torn. Do I go for one of the upcoming games such as FFXIII, God of War 3, or Heavy Rain? Or do I try for something a bit cheaper? Something I may have missed last year? Like Infamous, Uncharted 2, Tekken 6, or Demon’s Souls?

What I really want to do is buy a gamecube and go back and finish Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. Why did I ever get rid of the cube? It was an underrated little console, and now that the “DVD Advantage” of the Xbox and PS2 is made irrelevent by cheap players, I can truly say the Gamecube wasn’t appreciated in its time.

I think the ennui stems from a desire to simultaneously spend and save money. Yes I can afford a new game. But with taxes, the end of my OSU payments in sight, Valentine’s day on the horizon, and the Toaster’s concert coming soon (the concert will be cheap, but I’ll probably buy a bunch of tickets ans wait to get reimbursed) I’m in a mindset that I need to save. I’ll be in a better place come March or April.

I hope none of this comes of as me being depressed. All things being said, I’ve consistently been in a good mood for about a month. I’ve got a good job, a good place to live, my car’s working fine, and I still have time for my hobbies. In short, I’ve been really happy, and that’s a definite improvement.

Gamefly, man. Pair it with netflix and you’ll probably cut your dvd/bluray/game purchases by 90%.

Anyway my choices for PS3 games:

I highly recommend uncharted 2 as a rental- best-made game in history, epic story, fantastic voice and character work… but 10 hours with maybe 5-10 more in replay.

Bayonetta is insanely badass, plus regular insane too! Another rental.

Borderlands is great, not sure if its up your alley but I had a lot of fun with it.

Dragon Age: Origins was damn fun. The story is based on the George RR Martin / RA Salvatore ‘grownup’ fantasy genre entries, and it shows. Gameplay is a little hobbled and without the great story and voice acting I would rate it lower. Replay value is very high, you’d need ~100 hours to experience every branch of the storyline and sidequests. (sidenote: this is not based on D&D like neverwinter or baldur’s gate, but since they are using basically the D20 system it might as well be…)

Batman: Arkham Asylum. So badass. The original animated series voice cast, plus some of the best combo attacks ever, plus great story…. so good. This is a rental.

Borderlands, Dragon Age and Batman can be free for the PC, of course you need a machine that can play them.

I threw a cat in a tree and lit a building on fire that had a baby in it.
